In the UK, many family units wouldn't be complete without some fluffy, four-legged members. There's no doubt that we are a nation of dog lovers, and that's why we have made ten of our twelve self-catering properties dog-friendly. So when we say that High Oaks Grange is the ideal place for a family holiday, we mean the WHOLE family!

In this blog post we'll be running through our dog-friendly properties and amenities, and then we'll share some local dog-friendly eateries and attractions in the local area.

Puppy Paradise

All of our dog-friendly properties are spacious and welcoming for pups of all shapes and sizes. Whether you're staying in The Grange or a glamping pod, your pets are sure to feel at home. Those who require extra peace-of-mind will be glad to know that all of our cottages have fully enclosed gardens. Here is the full list of all our dog-friendly properties:

  • The Grange - our beautiful 5* converted farmhouse with six en-suite bedrooms, which sleeps up to 12

  • Dalby Cottage - our largest 5* cottage with an enclosed garden, which sleeps up to 6

  • Keldy Cottage - a 5* luxury cottage with an enclosed garden, sleeping up to 4

  • Rosedale Cottage - a 5* luxury cottage with an enclosed garden, sleeping up to 4

We normally allow up to two dogs in each property, and each dog is charged at a rate of £8 per night. As well as covering extra cleaning fees, this pup-payment also includes...

A Doggy Welcome Pack!

Seeing as our human guests receive a luxury welcome basket on arrival, we thought it only fair to provide one for canine guests, too! Dog bowls and treats are available for all dogs in all properties, and, in addition, dog beds are provided in The Grange. It's just one of the many ways that we try to make our guests feel as welcome as possible, and means you don't have to worry about bringing everything but the kitchen sink with you!

We also have holiday collar tags available from reception, which are engraved with our contact details. This means that if your four-legged friend goes walkabout, people will know that they're on holiday at High Oaks Grange and can contact us.

So, now that you and your dogs have settled into your luxury self-catering holiday home, it's time to explore...

Dog-Friendly Attractions

We're lucky to have the North York Moors National Park quite literally on our doorstep, meaning there is a huge amount of scenic countryside for you and your dogs to explore. We're also very close to Dalby Forest, whose long, meandering trails can provide endless exercise for even the most energetic of pups. Exploring through the delightful moorland nature reserve of Fen Bog is another fresh-air activity for humans and dogs alike.

If you enjoy a dog-friendly day out with a historical twist, we highly recommend a visit to Pickering Castle. Used throughout the centuries as a royal hunting lodge, holiday home, and stud farm by a succession of medieval kings, it's a must-see attraction in the local area. And why not pay a visit to Eden Camp History Museum? Housed in the buildings and grounds of an original WWII Prisoner of War Camp, a visit to this unique museum will transport you back to wartime Britain.

Does your holiday involve children and animals? It's easy to keep little ones entertained at Flamingo Land Resort; a popular family funpark with an extensive zoo and 100s of attractions. And when it's time to calm everybody down, we recommend a trip to Wolds Way Lavender. It's a joy to stroll through the fields of this unique lavender farm, which also features a distillery, tearoom, shop, and a miniature railway!

It's likely that all this exploring will work up an appetite, which means you'll be needing some...

Eat, drink and be merry in some of the fabulous dog-friendly eateries in the area, (when you're not making the most of your well-equipped kitchen back at High Oaks Grange, that is!).

Some of our favourite places to eat out with dogs in tow are:

The New Inn, Thornton-le-Dale - The New Inn is an old Georgian coaching house dating back to the 1720's, situated on the main square in Thornton le Dale. Serving home made meals and real ales, the pub is family friendly and dogs are welcome in the bar and beer garden.

The Buck Inn, Thornton-le-Dale - All food on offer is home cooked on the premises by a talented team of chefs, including their famously delicious pies! Cask Marque. Pets are welcome in the bar and lounge areas.

The Plough Inn, Wombleton - The Plough serves the very best of Yorkshire ales, great wines and mouthwatering meals from a Head Chef and team passionate about fresh ingredients and locally sourced foods. Well behaved dogs welcome!

Feast Deli & Café, Pickering - This quirky local café is a fantastic place to grab a bite to eat and a coffee. We particularly love their homemade burgers! Dogs welcome.

Capplemans Fish & Chips, Pickering - You and your dog can both enjoy a trip to Capplemans for a tasty fish supper! Expect large portions, lovely chips, and very happy tummies.

Olivia Rose of Yorkshire, Pickering - This rustic coffee shop serves delicious hot and cold drinks, homemade cakes, scones and snacks. They also have a wide range of local crafts for sale. Dogs very welcome.
