Scarborough Castle - Castle Road, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, YO11 1HY

With over 2,500 years of turbulent history behind it, Scarborough Castle defends a prominent headland between the north and south bays, with sheer drops to the sea. Before the castle was built, this natural fortress was favoured by prehistoric settlers before serving as a Roman signal station and Viking haven.

This spectacular castle has also endured sieges from medieval kings and Civil War armies, and German naval bombardment during WWII. Today you can climb to the battlement viewing platforms for dramatic coastline views, and take tea in the 18th-century Master Gunner's House.

It is said that King Richard III enjoyed the view from the battlements so much so that he still walks them today!

Wolds Way Lavender - Deer Park Farm, Sandy Lane, Wintringham, YO17 8HW

Set within ½ mile from the Wolds Way Walk, surrounded by mature woodland, on the northern edge of the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds. Wolds Way Lavender and Herb Farm is a wonderful and relaxing place to visit. The family run 12 acre site is currently planted with over six acres of lavender ranging from rich hues of purple to the purest white.

There are over 120 different types of lavenders and herbs growing which when in flower, paint an incredible splash of colour across the site. Along the borders wild flowers abound adding to the colour as does the abundance of wildlife that has made the site their home. A leisurely stroll around the site reveals the amazing differences from one variety of lavender to another.
