Yorkshire now boasts seven restaurants which hold Michelin Stars, following the announcement of the 2021 Michelin Guide. This includes two new additions to the prestigious list, who have been awarded the accolade for the first time.

Gaining a Michelin Star (or two, or three) is the ultimate goal for many chefs, but it is a feat managed by only a select few. For lovers of gourment food, Michelin Stars indicate the absolute pinnacle of excellent eating. By now featuring seven such restaurants, Yorkshire has provided the nation with yet another reason to visit God's Own Country (once you're allowed to, of course.)

 

The Magnificent Seven - Yorkshire's Michelin Star Restaurants:

Situated in a picturesque village on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, a couple of miles outside the market town of Helmsley, this much loved inn has origins believed to date back to the 14th Century. They describe themselves as a "rustic gourmet bolthole", and the menu features locally-sourced seasonal ingredients, such as local game, North Sea fish and fresh herbs from its own kitchen garden.

A Michelin Star and 4 AA Rosette pub and restaurant with rooms, 20 miles north of York. The Michelin Guide describes their cooking as "modern and highly skilled but satisfyingly unpretentious". The restaurant was also awarded the Michelin's first 'green star' award, commending their commitments to sustainably-sourced produce.

Sister restaurant to The Black Swan, Roots is the first restaurant in the centre of York to be awarded a Michelin Star. Their tasting menu offers a dining experience that Tommy and the team believe best showcases the current harvest from the farm, produce that’s been preserved throughout the year, and the best-quality produce from local suppliers.

The Pipe and Glass have now maintained their Michelin star for 5 years now! Winner of the 'Taste of England' Award at the 2009 Enjoy England Awards for Excellence. Other awards include being voted one of the top 40 restaurants outside of London. 'Caterer and Hotelkeeper' said of the restaurant "If East Yorkshire was once a culinary desert, The Pipe & Glass is very definitely its new foodies oasis."

Their Michelin Star was awarded in October 2015. Head Chef, Michael O'Hare has created a restaurant serving ultra modern food with its own identity, inspired by the arts, music and contemporary culture.
