From now until the 27th September 2020, you can climb aboard the newly named steam-hauled train and enjoy a non-stop journey to the picturesque town of Whitby, along the 24-mile heritage line.

This service will run twice daily, embarking from Pickering train station (just down the road from High Oaks Grange) and travelling directly to Whitby, where passengers can enjoy a few hours in this popular seaside destination.

The first service of the day departs Pickering at 09:20 and returns from Whitby at 14:00. The second service departs Pickering at 12:00 and returns from Whitby at 16:30.

Whiby Abbey

Whitby is always a popular place for our guests to visit, with its famous fish and chips, beautiful beach, stunning abbey, and of course, the spooky connection to Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula.’ We’ve listed a few highlights in our post, ‘Places to Visit - Whitby’ if you need some inspiration.

'The Optimist' will not be stopping at any other stations along the way, such as Levisham, Goathland, and Grosmont, and this is currently the only journey route available.

"All aboard!" - a trip on the NYMR makes for a great day out for all the family

We’re told that pre-booking is essential as there is limited capacity onboard to ensure social distancing is maintained. A return journey costs £35 for an adult, £70 for a duo ticket for two seated at a table, £72 for a family of four at a table, or a compartment for up to six people is £150. Dogs are also welcome for £3. For more information and to book, click here.

If you’re staying at High Oaks Grange this August or September, will you be making the most of this exciting new service along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway?
