When you think of the Yorkshire countryside, you are more likely to think of a pint of ale rather than a refined wine. However, nestled in the rolling hills of North and East Yorkshire, a quiet revolution is underway.
Yorkshire is fast becoming one of the most exciting new wine regions on the global map. Thanks to global warming and modern technology, the Yorkshire wine scene is flourishing like never before.
Yorkshire's Great Grapes
Whilst not historically considered a prime region for vineyard development, Yorkshire's climate has shown significant changes over the past few decades. The warmer summers and milder winters as well as the rise in popularity of UK wine has encouraged wine growers to establish vineyards up here in Yorkshire. Much is made about a wine region’s ‘terrior’ – that's what is under the vines to me and you – contributes to the texture and finish of the wine. With plenty of clay and chalky hills about, there are an abundance of different wines being produced from Yorkshire.
Here are just a few of the wineries that you can visit whilst enjoying a holiday at High Oaks Grange;
