As temperatures continue to soar and this summer set to be warmer than most, you may be seeking the cool water and shade. Here are our top recommendations where you can feel cool and make a splash.
Helmsley Open Air Pool

The 25m pool is heated and offers different sessions from fun splash sessions, lane swimming and open swim for all. For more information and timetable please visit their website
Alpamare
If slides are more your style then a visit to Scarborough’s own waterpark is a must. Four big slides, a splash park, wave pool and thermal outdoor pools ensure that there is something for the whole family. You’ll be keeping cool, having fun and admiring the view of Scarborough’s North Bay too. Book online
North Yorkshire Water Park
If you fancy a lake rather than a pool then you’ll have lots of fun at the new North Yorkshire Water Park set at Wykeham Lakes. If you want all action fun then have a go at the inflatable assault course set out on the water with swings, trampolines and slides. The aqua park provides the cool thrills for the summer. If you want to learn a new skill then you can opt to try your hand with the new wake boarding line or have a go at paddle boarding or kayaking. You’ll find all the information you need at North Yorkshire Water Park
Surfing with Coastal Concepts
Surf’s up in Scarborough with Matt from Coastal Concepts. If you have always wanted to learn to surf then Matt offers 1 to 1 or small group surf lessons from beginners up to the pro's. You can find out more and contact Matt via Facebook.
Want to just hire the gear and enjoy the breaks that the North Bay offers, then Dexter's Surf Shop is the place to head. You’ll find details about their lessons, groups and hire on their Facebook.
Falling Foss
If you are a fan of wild water swimming then you’ll enjoy the beauty of the waterfall at Falling Foss. Not far from Whitby, it is a beautiful 10m waterfall with a small deep plunge pool surrounded by woodland. There is noticeable absence of a path to the waterfall so access is difficult and should only be attempted by the sure footed. There is also a lovely tearoom too so after a dip, you can enjoy a drink and sit back and relax in the beautiful surroundings.
