Flamingo Land in Kirby Misperton, near Malton, is a truly amazing attraction incorporating a zoo and theme park.
The zoo has the distinction of being the most visited in the UK, according to Visit England and its easy to understand why. Flamingo Land is home to more than 140 mammals and birds including hippos, lions, baboons, lemurs, giraffes and, of course, the park's flamingos.
At Flamingo Land you can experience rare and endangered species at close quarters, including the three Sumatran tigers, now five years old, who were born at the park. Visit the new mother and baby Black Rhinos that arrived from Zurich in September 2015. The Black Rhinos reside in the Selous Black Rhino Reserve, complete with its rhino house and elevated viewing platform. There's a presentation venue with elevated platform for visitors to take part in an outdoor Giraffe Animal Encounter. After hearing all about this endangered spectacular animal, the VIP guests can hand-feed the Rothschild giraffes from the platform and see the progress of the two Rothschild giraffe calves that were born in 2015
For unrestricted views meander through the Lemur and Wallaby Walkways that give close up and personal views of these fascinating creatures, then take in the amazing Penguin Coast one of the UK's largest and most realistic penguin habitats. In Children's Planet you'll find lovable, mischievous meerkats, while Muddy Duck Farm is home to all the favourite farm animals that youngsters love. At various times during the day you can watch the animals being fed, accompanied by informative talks by the keepers - and there's a fantastic free sea lion show, too.
For those who want a really special encounter with the animals, Flamingo Land offers a series of Animal Encounters and Be A Zoo Keeper experiences. These
make wonderful gifts and special occasion surprises and need to be booked in advance or on arrival.
Thrill seekers and lovers of white knuckle rides are spoilt for choice with the sensational collection of eight extreme rides including the latest roller coaster Hero, that puts visitors in a superhero flying position before swooping them around a track. There is also the Guinness World Record breaking Mumbo Jumbo, with the steepest drop of
any ride.
There's a great choice of junior and family rides. All the attractions in Dino-Stone Park have a dinosaur theme. Soar 45 metres into the air on the Pterodactyl swing, spin on the family coaster Twistosaurus and pedal on Cyclosaur. See animatronic dinosaurs, life-size dino skeletons and search for dinosaur bones in the Dino Dig sand.
For couples who want to start their married life with a walk on the wild side, Flamingo Land has a licence for civil wedding ceremonies in the Mansion House, adjacent to the local village church. A wedding could also incorporate animal interaction, such as a lemur experience or being married on the Penguin Coast decking.
Flamingo Land is only 5.7 miles from High Oaks Grange and is well sign posted from the A169 Pickering to Malton Road.
